Welcome to YOUR Accordion Services' Web site!

Hi .. I'm Dennis Hoshield.  By day I'm a Network Operations Manager at an Internet ASP/ISP in Petoskey Michigan.  By night, I work on my button box web page, and on the weekends, I'm a 'MINI Warrior'!  You will usually find me putz'n around the Petoskey and Harbor Springs area in my '74 British Leyland Mini.  It will pretty much be a daily driver .. until the 1st hint of snow .....

My OTHER hobby is the Steirische Harmonika ... (Styrian Button Box).  It's a type of diatonic accordion, historically popular in selected regions of Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Italy.  You can get to those pages by the Steirische Harmonika link below.  I'm not nearly as grumpy as I look in the photo above .. :-) , however I do attempt to be serious about performing as accurately as possible, the regional music from where this style box originates ... while still having fun.

This button box player to the left is Matt Spears (in the black bundenhosen – leather knickers), a member of the Ozanich family from Engadine, located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA.  Matt was one of my key inspirations to learn to play proper ethnic music and techniques.  He and his family specialize in 'old style' Slovanian music. Other members are: Richard Ozanich, Richard Debelak, and Mike Klobucher.

After a couple trips to German and surrounding areas with the Harbor Springs Community Band, a few of us started a 'close-as-we-could-get' German-style 'oom-pah' band ... called (what else???) da Li'l Oom-Pah Band.  I'll be adding some photos and sound clips as time goes on ... you can find links to them below.

Next photo down, in the black shorter lederhosen with green trim, is Rick Michels of G.T.E.V. EdelweissDetroit, MI (group photo below).  This is a verein (club) in the Detroit, Michigan area, dedicated to maintaining historical Bavarian music, dance, and culture.  He is the ‘go to’ guy for the Detroit club, as well as the national Gau … an umbrella organization for other similar clubs across the US.  He is my main source inspiration for proper musik, style, and playing technique on the button box, and is just an all round good guy!

I have set  up an On-Line shop for Steirische (Button Box) related items, from new boxes, cases, straps, music 'notes' (including Griffschrift Notation), training materials, and anything stamped, or printed with a button box.  These accessories and notions include Hats, T-shirts, Silk Ties, Wristwatches, bumper stickers, mugs ... you get the idea.   I don’t actually ‘sell’ accordions, but can be the in-between person for Harmonika-Pauli, of Grainet, Bavaria, where I purchased my Müller.

NOTE:  I have been in the middle of building a house, and moving the last several months, so you may find pricing and items on the On-Line shop, not up to date!  Please e-mail, with any questions.

Please, come on in ... sign the guestbook, go browse around the shop, drink from one of the mugs, and squeeze out a few tunes on the new boxes.  Consignment sales are offered too ... just e-mail me via dhosh@SteirischeHarmonika.com.

This IS (currently) a hobby site .. so inventories will be low for a bit, so if quantities aren't available for the item(s) you want, please just send a note via e-mail.   All orders will be promptly shipped.

Thanks for visiting!
