Early days of the Oom-Pah band .. where we were REALLY ‘Little’!

         Welcome to da Li'l Oom-Pah Band's Web site!

Hi .. You must be pretty interested on Oom-Pah style music, or you wouldn't have found our little web site.  After a couple trips to Germany and surrounding areas with the Harbor Springs Community Band, a few of us started a 'close-as-we-could-get' German-style 'oom-pah' band ... called (what else???) da Li'l Oom-Pah Band.  Along the lines of a 'kitchen band'... we get together at someone's house to practice about once a week, in the parlor, garage, yard ... anywhere we can find some place that will give us enough room, and will put up with our musical intentions.  We play mostly 'blasmusi', ‘tanzlmusi’  and  other styles, common in parts of south-central Europe ... Bavaria, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Poland.  Our instrumentation varies but we typically have:

1-2 tubas, 1-3 clarinets, 1-2 trumpets, 1-2 baritone horns,  accordion, Steirische Harmonika (Button box accordion),  hammered dulcimer, guitar, fiddle occasionally a trombone, and even a banjo!  Much of our music is imported from Germany and Austria from  Herbert Bilhartz of www.festmusik.com in Texas.  He does a great job finding good arrangements for us.  I am also looking for and checking out music publishers and private sellers in Germany and Austria, via the Internet. 

The photo above is of my daughter and son-in-law's wedding, as we were doing "Ein Prosit". Note the photo to the lower left (with the cows).  While warming up for a rustic 'Wild Game Party' performance at Pond Hill Farms in Harbor Springs, MI, Clyde caught the attention of a few cows.  They meandered over from the far side of the field to find out who what was going on.  They probably thought they heard some sort of mating call ... :-) We have fun, while attempting to be serious about performing as accurately as possible, the regional music from where this style music originates.
